Material Selection

Plastic Injection Molding Material Selection

We work with our customers to select ideal materials for each individual plastic injection molding application. Our material selection process includes a detailed review of each injection molding application need to provide the best option based on the properties needed for the finished product.

Plastics are increasingly being used to replace other materials like bronze, stainless steel, aluminum, ceramics and rubber.  Plastic replacements often result in longer part life, elimination of lubrication, reduced wear, less weight requiring less port, faster operation, environmentally inert/ corrosion resistance.

Injection Molding Material Selection

Materials are chosen based on the strength and function required for the final part, the different characteristics and properties needed for molding are also factored into the process.

Our injection molding engineers are experienced in recommending the best materials for an application based on manufacturing and processing properties, product performance and lowest total cost for the entire product cycle.

Typical Injection Molding Material Selection Criteria

  • Wear Application
  • Wear Properties
  • Structural Properties
  • Temperature Profile
  • Application Environment- Abrasive, Corrosive
  • Strength vs Flexibility needs
  • Morphology
  • Machinability
  • QA /Tolerances

We have many of the commonly used plastic injection materials in-house,  we can also run customer supplied materials along with sourcing specific materials or colorant that are not readily available.
